If you use Windows Media Player version 8 to play many types of audio and video be careful. Why must be careful, because there security hole in this version.

The security hole is that there is access from Microsoft to tracking your DVD while you playing the film or hearing your favorites music and super cookie can created, and information about your privacy that can transfer via internet.

When you using WMP version 8 to play DVD, created connection to the Microsoft server to get title of your DVD and chapter information about this DVD. To identify you’re DVD, Microsoft using cookie and recorded the information in your local hard drive at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Index.

So next time when you use WMP to play DVD, no need connection to internet to get information about the title, WMP just put the information from your local computer. But there are many tricks to solve this situation and your privacy keep on secret.

  • Click Work offline
